The last day of the visit, we decided to visit Cave of the Winds. Gary has been dying to go, but we haven't had the time nor the inclination. Lots of stalactites and stalagmites and twists and turns and ups and downs. They've touriste-ified it to make it easier to walk around with paved paths and stairs, but it was really neat to see! Here are some pictures, but the order is backwards. Enjoy!
Adios!
Silly Daddy!
Mr. Racoon.
The original entrance. It was sealed off to keep out wild animals and teenagers.
The longest stalactite.
The only spot we were allowed to touch in the cave. The oils in our hands stop the growth.
The founder's favorite quote. Hell, if I could only remember his name....
Cute Daddy and Cute Colvin.
Mommy and Colvin.
On the original tours, they used to encourage tourists to break off a piece to take it home. Little did they know that it takes 1000 years to grow an inch (or some crazy amount)!
Nancy and Olivia.
Shin-splitting stairs of doom.
Pretty.
Inside the cave.
Duck! Don't hit your head.
This is really cool! I've been waiting all year to come see it!
Water running on the walls.
Entrance to the cave (and the last wall you are allowed to touch).
Pretty Birds. :) Silly, they're not real.
Panning for gold.
The family.
Daddy wanted to discover a cave too. He picked that one over there! He'll have to climb it another day. ;)
View from the Visitor's Center. Don't look down!
